Heading to the Home Stretch--Blackhawks Snatch Another 'W'

WINNIPEG, MB -- Heart Attack Hawks are back!

After a rather eventful game, the boys managed to pull out a big W, ending their 4-game road trip, leaving the trip 3-1. Not bad, guys, not bad.

With Keith out for six games (we got reeeeally lucky with that), the defense needs to be better (I sound like Toews all of a sudden) as a whole, and tonight proved they could be.

But, we didn't leave the game unscathed--Shaw (upper body, day-to-day) and van Riemsdyk both went out with injuries in the second period. Hopefully, they won't be too bad and they'll be ready come playoffs. Toews got knocked by a puck, and ended up getting some stitches in his ear. Looks like it's a stitch-y kind of year for him, I guess.

Also, Panarin is back! I'm really glad he played well tonight, getting two goals and two assists. Great start, and hopefully the playoffs will bring him some luck. He's a good player, and going nine games without a goal must have been frustrating. He also broke our power play drought, so that's good, too.

And, can we talk about Alternate Captain Kane? Here for it. I love seeing the 'A' on him, which is good since we might see it for the remaining 5 games of Keith's suspension. And, a goal and an assist is nice--2 more points closer to 100. I think he's at 96 at the moment, which is something he can definitely do in the remaining 4 games. One a game.

Oh, god, but we can't end this post without Seabrook's OT game-winner. He's been in a bit of a slump lately, even though he's at a career high with 14 goals on the seasons so far. His Corsi is lower than usual at 48.2, but I think he'll pick up speed going into the playoffs.

The boys are looking good, but can they keep it up? There are only four games left in the regular season, which is crazy to say, but that includes three home games and the final game at Columbus. It won't be an easy stretch, but it's the final one, and they just need to push through to the playoffs. Once they get there, they seem to kick it into full gear.

The Blackhawks play the Bruins at home on April 3rd, at 12:30 pm for an early game on NBC.

Checking In - Breaking Down the Blackhawks' Play Over a Month

CHICAGO, IL — I’m going to be absolutely real with you—I had no idea what to write about for the blog this week. I’ve written about the Blackhawks being good, bad, and everything in between, I’ve written about Patrick Kane a couple times now (#Kane4Hart), and I’ve even written about the best goal celebrations from the Hawks this season. The idea tank is running dry, my friends. So, I thought we could throw it back to a post I made a while back about what the Hawks really needed to do to make the playoffs, and grade them on how well they're meeting all three of those items a couple of weeks later. Let's just get right on into it, shall we? 1) With 27 games left, you have to go 18-9 to get to the 88-90-point range that would potentially get them into the playoffs. So, the Hawks currently sit at 71 points through 70 games, and since the date of this article (February 8th), the Hawks have gone 9-6, which is not terrible, but also only gives them a b...

Break-Up Day - Blackhawks End of Season Locker Room Clean Out

CHICAGO, IL — After a nice finish on the season with wins over the St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars (and a loss to the Nashville Predators that we're going to ignore), the Blackhawks are officially in the off-season. The team held their annual locker room clean out, and I thought there were a lot of great takeaways from the clean out day. Obviously, the Hawks didn’t finish where they wanted to, but I think that was made up for when they moved from the 12th overall pick to the 3rd pick in the 2019 NHL Draft Lottery that took place on Tuesday. I’ll probably do a quick piece on who the Hawks should be looking at and what their options are for the draft in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for that. But, in the meantime, lets go over some of the topics that came up in the clean out presser. IIHF World Championship The past couple of years, a handful of Blackhawks players have participated in the IIHF World Championship, which takes place in early May. A coup...

Ain't No Sunshine - Hawks Recap (11/16 - 11/22)

CHICAGO, IL -- I'm undecided on this week, honestly. Certainly not their worst week of outings, but not really their best, either. I just kind of... wished it'd gone better? Especially since the Hawks' schedule is getting kind of gnarly here. I don't think they're in the dark, or completely out of it at this point--as I've reiterated a gazillion times to family, friends and the interwebs: they don't hand out the Cup in November. I really do think that they'll be okay, even if this week wasn't great. It also wasn't the worst week they've had to date (8-game losing streak, anyone?), and I really think they're still trending up. Let's just hope they keep trending that way. Anyways, let's get into some games, shall we? BLACKHAWKS V. LOS ANGELES KINGS - L/SO, 1-2 I'll be the first to admit that this wasn't the prettiest of Hawks games. But, at the same time... It wasn't the worst I've ever seen. The ...
