A Lackluster End to a Great Season

COLUMBUS, OH -- So, the Hawks ended the season in typical Hawks fashion--losing a three-point lead to a low-level team. But, you know, it's okay.

Going into the game without Toews, Keith, Hjalmarsson, Hossa, Shaw, and Anisimov, I wasn't expecting much. I really expected a shutout. But, the boys started out right, and at this point... I'll take it.

Patrick Kane couldn't seem to wait to score, taking a shot nine seconds in and connecting. Awesome, and only a second off from a Blackhawks record! Really cool stuff, guys. Panarin and Rasmussen got assists, which is only Panarin's first point of the night.

I really thought he'd get another hat trick with the two next goals! He was on fire, scoring twice more in the first period to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead. I really thought they had it, but apparently, the Blackhawks had to make the game stressful. As usual.

The Blue Jackets caught up in the second period, and even Brandon Saad got to score on his old team. It stung, my friends. Oh, how it stung. But, I'm happy for him--I'm sure it felt really, really good. And in his defense, he doesn't get a postseason this year. He deserved that one.

By the end of the second, Columbus was up 4-3, which was about what I expected from the game tonight.

But, Kane came back in the third to tie it up, forcing overtime! I hate Hawks overtime--it makes everything so much more stressful. With a 5-on-3 power play, I thought they'd score. But, nope. Forced overtime.

Even then, they could have won. But Teravainen's penalty... They didn't stand a chance.

You know what, though?

This season has been awesome. It's the first season I've really followed hockey, and though I watched all three times the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup, nothing compared to watching Kaner's point streak, the team's 12-game winning streak, Kane and Panarin's respective hat tricks, a 100-point season for Kane, eight shutouts, (likely) a lot of trophies... Man.

It's crazy to believe the playoffs are already here. Seriously, no matter how far the boys go this year, I'm so proud of them. They've all had an amazing year, and I'm so proud of them.

Let's go Blackhawks!

Checking In - Breaking Down the Blackhawks' Play Over a Month

CHICAGO, IL — I’m going to be absolutely real with you—I had no idea what to write about for the blog this week. I’ve written about the Blackhawks being good, bad, and everything in between, I’ve written about Patrick Kane a couple times now (#Kane4Hart), and I’ve even written about the best goal celebrations from the Hawks this season. The idea tank is running dry, my friends. So, I thought we could throw it back to a post I made a while back about what the Hawks really needed to do to make the playoffs, and grade them on how well they're meeting all three of those items a couple of weeks later. Let's just get right on into it, shall we? 1) With 27 games left, you have to go 18-9 to get to the 88-90-point range that would potentially get them into the playoffs. So, the Hawks currently sit at 71 points through 70 games, and since the date of this article (February 8th), the Hawks have gone 9-6, which is not terrible, but also only gives them a b...

Break-Up Day - Blackhawks End of Season Locker Room Clean Out

CHICAGO, IL — After a nice finish on the season with wins over the St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars (and a loss to the Nashville Predators that we're going to ignore), the Blackhawks are officially in the off-season. The team held their annual locker room clean out, and I thought there were a lot of great takeaways from the clean out day. Obviously, the Hawks didn’t finish where they wanted to, but I think that was made up for when they moved from the 12th overall pick to the 3rd pick in the 2019 NHL Draft Lottery that took place on Tuesday. I’ll probably do a quick piece on who the Hawks should be looking at and what their options are for the draft in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for that. But, in the meantime, lets go over some of the topics that came up in the clean out presser. IIHF World Championship The past couple of years, a handful of Blackhawks players have participated in the IIHF World Championship, which takes place in early May. A coup...

Ain't No Sunshine - Hawks Recap (11/16 - 11/22)

CHICAGO, IL -- I'm undecided on this week, honestly. Certainly not their worst week of outings, but not really their best, either. I just kind of... wished it'd gone better? Especially since the Hawks' schedule is getting kind of gnarly here. I don't think they're in the dark, or completely out of it at this point--as I've reiterated a gazillion times to family, friends and the interwebs: they don't hand out the Cup in November. I really do think that they'll be okay, even if this week wasn't great. It also wasn't the worst week they've had to date (8-game losing streak, anyone?), and I really think they're still trending up. Let's just hope they keep trending that way. Anyways, let's get into some games, shall we? BLACKHAWKS V. LOS ANGELES KINGS - L/SO, 1-2 I'll be the first to admit that this wasn't the prettiest of Hawks games. But, at the same time... It wasn't the worst I've ever seen. The ...
