A Wild Game--An Ejection, Penalties Galore, and A Big 'L'

ST. PAUL, MN -- Well, that was a game.

Let's run down the list of everything that happened, shall we?

First, we've got the Hawks doing specifically what they shouldn't have: they let the Wild score within the opening minutes of the period. But, that's not even the start.

For someone as (relatively speaking) small as Duncan Keith, he sure can play dirty. A nice stick to the face earned him a five minute penalty along with a match penalty. And, now, he's suspended indefinitely (at least 2-3 games, in my opinion), which really sucks. Without Seabrook playing tonight and possibly not Friday (though, I think he'll be back by then), it'll be interesting to see what happens going forward for this home stretch.

But, on that five minute penalty kill, the boys managed to do a good and Hossa scored a beautiful shorty. #499, to be exact. There's a reason we call him the Demigod. The guy's definitely not human.

And, what was that? Too many men on the ice? Oh, come on, we've done--it wasn't the Blackhawks? STOP THE PRESSES. Seriously, though, they didn't score on that power play. They're still 0-25 on power plays for the past few weeks. Moral victories, guys. It's the little things.

There were a slew of penalties in the second period for both sides, including Shaw's fight with Dumba. That was a little nod to the March 20th game where Dumba took Kane down at center ice--and though Panarin stepped in to show the guy who's boss, Shaw felt it was his duty to make himself known, too. Typical Shaw, gotta love it. And, you've gotta love the boys all standing up for each other.

(Also, their fist bump while Shaw was sitting in the box? Priceless.)

Honestly, the remainder of the game (so, basically the 3rd period) was rather boring. Three Minnesota goals will do that. And, the Hawks were swept in a season series. It's sort of unbelievable, to be honest.

But, no fear. The Blackhawks have a week and a half to kick their asses into gear before playoffs. They play their best hockey in the playoffs, and as long as they can avoid the Wild for a bit, they'll be alright.

The Blackhawks play again Friday, April 1st @ 8pm in Winnipeg--hopefully sweeping the Jets in that season series.

Checking In - Breaking Down the Blackhawks' Play Over a Month

CHICAGO, IL — I’m going to be absolutely real with you—I had no idea what to write about for the blog this week. I’ve written about the Blackhawks being good, bad, and everything in between, I’ve written about Patrick Kane a couple times now (#Kane4Hart), and I’ve even written about the best goal celebrations from the Hawks this season. The idea tank is running dry, my friends. So, I thought we could throw it back to a post I made a while back about what the Hawks really needed to do to make the playoffs, and grade them on how well they're meeting all three of those items a couple of weeks later. Let's just get right on into it, shall we? 1) With 27 games left, you have to go 18-9 to get to the 88-90-point range that would potentially get them into the playoffs. So, the Hawks currently sit at 71 points through 70 games, and since the date of this article (February 8th), the Hawks have gone 9-6, which is not terrible, but also only gives them a b...

Ain't No Sunshine - Hawks Recap (11/16 - 11/22)

CHICAGO, IL -- I'm undecided on this week, honestly. Certainly not their worst week of outings, but not really their best, either. I just kind of... wished it'd gone better? Especially since the Hawks' schedule is getting kind of gnarly here. I don't think they're in the dark, or completely out of it at this point--as I've reiterated a gazillion times to family, friends and the interwebs: they don't hand out the Cup in November. I really do think that they'll be okay, even if this week wasn't great. It also wasn't the worst week they've had to date (8-game losing streak, anyone?), and I really think they're still trending up. Let's just hope they keep trending that way. Anyways, let's get into some games, shall we? BLACKHAWKS V. LOS ANGELES KINGS - L/SO, 1-2 I'll be the first to admit that this wasn't the prettiest of Hawks games. But, at the same time... It wasn't the worst I've ever seen. The ...

Break-Up Day - Blackhawks End of Season Locker Room Clean Out

CHICAGO, IL — After a nice finish on the season with wins over the St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars (and a loss to the Nashville Predators that we're going to ignore), the Blackhawks are officially in the off-season. The team held their annual locker room clean out, and I thought there were a lot of great takeaways from the clean out day. Obviously, the Hawks didn’t finish where they wanted to, but I think that was made up for when they moved from the 12th overall pick to the 3rd pick in the 2019 NHL Draft Lottery that took place on Tuesday. I’ll probably do a quick piece on who the Hawks should be looking at and what their options are for the draft in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for that. But, in the meantime, lets go over some of the topics that came up in the clean out presser. IIHF World Championship The past couple of years, a handful of Blackhawks players have participated in the IIHF World Championship, which takes place in early May. A coup...
