Best Cellies of the Season (So Far)

CHICAGO, IL -- I know, I know. I haven't written about the Blackhawks games in a while. But, let's be real. This is so much more fun. You're really in for a treat this week--I'm going to be ranking the season's best goal celebrations, or cellies, if you will. Yeah, I'm running out of ideas, sue me. We deserve this fun stuff for a minute, okay? I wanted to do a whole big post about ranking the best Blackhawks cellies of all time--or maybe just in the Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews era--but I think that'll take a while and it'd be more fun to do over the off-season. Anyways, I have some stipulations, again. (I love that damn word.) First, I'm going to be only ranking celebrations from this season. Like I said before, this makes it a little easier for me to compile this post. TBD if I do a full-on Blackhawks Celly History. Second, I'm only picking ten. I know that doesn't seem like a lot, but I want to make sure I capture the re

Mid-Season Report Cards - How Are the Blackhawks Doing?

CHICAGO, IL -- I know everyone's doing these nowadays, but I thought I'd give a shot at it. Especially because I don't really watch games for the stats (though I've grown to love numbers), whereas most journalists and hockey experts typically make these entirely stat-filled articles. There's nothing wrong with that, of course--I just watch the game more for entertainment, so I have a feeling my report cards for the Blackhawks might look a bit different than most. Anyways, the report cards. I've kind of made some ground rules, just so I make sure I give everyone a fair shot here. I'm only grading players if they: 1) Have played 15+ games with the Blackhawks this season 2) Are currently under the salary cap 3) Have not been traded away So, this eliminates Collin Delia (5 GP), Drake Caggiula (3 GP), Brandon Davidson (10 GP), and Carl Dahlstrom (14 GP) from the current roster. I feel like that levels the playing ground a little, and gives me a ch

History in the Making - A Winter Classic to Remember

SOUTHBEND, IN —  The Winter Classic this past Tuesday is just too cool to not talk about.  Not only was it an Original Six matchup, it was held at one of the most iconic sports venues in the nation—Notre Dame Stadium. The sheer amount of history between the two teams, the field the ice was laid on and the stadium itself is amazing. You have two teams that have played in the NHL for over 90 years together, two teams that have multiple Stanley Cups under their belts (each team has six), and two teams that celebrate every tiny bit of their history. Then, you have Notre Dame—with Touchdown Jesus overlooking the stadium, the iconic “PLAY LIKE A CHAMPION TODAY” sign, the enthusiastic and immediately recognizable fight song—it would be remiss to say that this venue was just another stadium. And I’m so glad this was where the NHL decided to play the Winter Classic this year. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to this one--though I’d definitely planned it out a couple of times while daydrea

2019 All Star Game Roster Predictions - Who's In?

EDIT: I made a baby mistake by putting too many guys on each team--there are only supposed to be 7 forwards, 2 defensemen and 2 goalies. I'm going to go ahead highlight the guys I did manage to get right, but yeah, I flubbed on this one. Apologies! SAN JOSE, CA -- This year's All-Star Game is sure to be a fun and interesting one for sure. With so much star-power in this league, it's hard to narrow it down to the best 48 forwards, 28 defensemen and 8 goalies. On top of that, you have to have at least one player from every team in attendance, making it a little trickier. But, in a last-ditch effort (the real roster will be released at 6:30pm EST tonight), I thought I'd try my hand at making a roster. If nothing else, it'll be fun to look at once the real rosters are released and compare who I thought would go with who didn't get selected. A couple of disclaimers: 1) I did not take LW/C/RW into consideration with the forwards and instead just tried to
