You Get a Win, You Get a Win, You Get a Win! - Hawks Recap (10/19 - 10/26)

CHICAGO, IL - Well, kids, I never thought I'd see the day. The Blackhawks are 6-2-2 in their first ten outings.  Yeah. Let that sink in for a second. I'm just as shocked as you are, believe me. I know I keep saying it (and so does everyone else), but this is not where I expected the Hawks to be ten games in. I was expecting the worst. To say I'm happy with this early result would be an understatement--these games have been so fun to watch (yes, even the loss to Tampa Bay--we'll get there), and I can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store. I can't say I've raised my hopes that much, mostly because I don't like being disappointed, but I'm interested to see what they do with the remaining 72 games. Let's get into this. BLACKHAWKS AT COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS: W, 4-1 A win in regulation! It's not just a myth! In all seriousness, I think this is the best game the Hawks have played to date. You could make an argumen

Never-Ending Games - Hawks Recap (10/12 - 10/19)

CHICAGO, IL - I mean, good God, boys. Good-freaking-God. Five straight OT games is a little excessive, don't you think? It certainly hasn't helped my heart rate. The Blackhawks did make sports history by being the first team in any league to start each of their first five games of the season with overtime... which would be a really cool piece of trivia if it wasn't five straight games of overtime. Either way, we have a couple of big stories this week, outside of the games. First, Duncan Keith played in his 1,000th game on Saturday, and it was certainly a special celebration for him. He's been one of my favorite players for a long time, and to see him awarded with the silver stick (from Patrick Sharp and Brent Seabrook, no less!) and the beautiful portrait (revealed by none other than Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews) was just incredibly heartwarming. The Blackhawks also showed a wonderful montage of most of Keith's greatest moments, and let's just say

OT, OT, Never Much Love When You Go OT - Hawks Recap (10/5 - 10/12)

CHICAGO, IL - The name for this weekly blogging-thing is a work in progress--no laughs, please. It'll probably get worse before it gets better. Anyways, let's get into this week, eh? Color me (mildly) impressed. Seriously, the Blackhawks looked pretty fantastic this week across the board. There are obviously points of improvement (that power play game has to change, for one--losing a two-goal lead is another), but overall, these first few games went better than I thought they would. I'll start with a couple of quick housekeeping-type items, starting with Jonathan Toews earning NHL's 2nd star of the week. It should've been the first star, but I guess you can't deny Auston Matthews and his prowess. Either way, a terrific start for the captain (more on that in a moment). It should also be noted that tomorrow, October 13th, Duncan Keith will be playing in his 1,000th game--all 1,000 of those games have been in a Hawks sweater. Pretty unbelievable stuff,

Rough Riders - Hawks Edge Out Overtime Win Over Senators

OTTAWA, ON, CA - First, I'm going to start by saying that this blog is going to look a little different, but I'll get to that in a minute. Let's talk about that game. It wasn't my favorite performance, for a number of reasons, but I didn't think it was... terrible? I mean, sure, it wasn't the prettiest game the Blackhawks have ever played, but it also wasn't the worst in the books. Look, the first period was actually a really good period, even if it ended a little lopsided for the Hawks. I thought Alex Debrincat's goal was unbelievable, and Jonathan Toews got in on the fun, too--I really love that Debrincat-Toews-Dominik Kahun line, guys. Like, really love it. Jonny might have just found himself some permanent linemates. Can we go back to the DeBrincat goal for a second, though? That was incredible--I don't know how that even went in, honestly. Just skirted over Craig Andersen's shoulder, and fortunately for the Hawks, he didn't s

Off-Season Round-Up: Preseason Games, Injuries, Lines, Oh My!

CHICAGO, IL -- This off-season has been quite a busy one for the Hawks--though, unfortunately, not in the way they wanted it to be. Now that preseason is finally over for the Hawks, I think it's time to reflect on the off-season as a whole. There's a lot to unpack here, so bear with me here. Preseason/Training Camp I think this seems like the most logical place to start, no? Even though it ended in a disappointing record of 2-4, I don't think it was a total waste of time or a reflection of what's to come, necessarily. If nothing else, we got to see a bit of action from a few players that many fans were anxious to see--including Adam Boqvist (drafted this year and headed to the OHL), Dylan Sikura (fresh out of college and headed to Rockford), Henri Jokiharju (draftee from the 2016 draft who seems finally ready for the big leagues), Chris Kunitz (a veteran player with a nice pedigree), and Cam Ward (another vet with a little ground to make up). I do think that
